About

Weltanschauung
Weltanshcauung (click to hear), my world view: “Get it down before the itch for perfection obliterates spontaneity.”

I can’t remember where I heard that, but I love the thought.

Catholic monk and writer Thomas Merton commented about Advertising’s treating all products with the reverence and the seriousness due to sacraments. Spontaneity is my prize. Even the natural and meaningful eye contact in a formal portrait.

My life journey began in South Carolina. My first camera came from a breakfast cereal offer for just one dollar. I was in Korat, Thailand, when I bought my first 35mm camera. While digging out a college degree in Biology, I took lots of art courses and psychology courses. I was working in medical research when I told my wonderful and indulgent wife that I had a change of heart and wanted to be a photographer.

We moved to California.

Any wonder that I cleave to the notion of spontaneity?
